Sparrow the court jester3/8/2023 Ultimately, we are paid for objectivity, which stays clear of the pollution of their politics. By agreeing to trek it, we do not do our best work. This is their mountain to climb, not ours. Stay above that fray, even if well-intended people try to hip you to the pitfalls, personalities, and power struggles of that institution. You also must have such strong conviction that you are not swayed or influenced by their organization’s politics. To play court jester well you need to have an innate mix of wisdom and whimsy. People, especially tough people, are really tender.Ĭourt jesters have the uncanny ability to speak of matters no one else in the system can touch. Keep asking until you get to the heart of truth. Sometimes there are “family style’ secrets inside companies and walls of denial as thick as prison walls. Asking the hardest questions about obstacles to growth and delivering the findings takes you deep inside the people who make up the culture. We also have a duty to name the obstacles. We also have to set the stage, carefully constructing an atmosphere of trust where we can mine issues deeply, uncover hidden orthodoxies, serve as a mirror, and always, always, always, point out reachable possibilities for growth. To meet this objective we have to play enlightened court jester, so to speak, asking all the un-askable questions those inside the company cannot ask. As a thriving consultancy, our primary vocation is providing insight and objectivity that adds value to our clients.
